SCNL PARTNERS WITH TNC AND PADEV ON THE GFIP PROJECT

These agreements represent an important step toward protecting Liberia’s rich natural heritage while empowering local communities and promoting sustainable management of the country’s critical forest ecosystems. SCNL remains committed to building strategic partnerships that foster environmental sustainability, strengthen climate resilience, conserve biodiversity, and support inclusive development across Liberia and the wider Mano River landscape.

Today marks a significant milestone in Liberia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen conservation, sustainable development, and environmental governance across its critical forest landscapes.

The Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia (SCNL) has officially signed Sub-Grant Agreements with The Nature Compact (TNC) and Partners in Development (PADEV) to implement key activities under the GEF Integrated Forests Program (GFIP) Liberia Country Project, titled “Strengthening Conservation and Effective Governance of Liberia’s Critical Forests in the Northwest Liberia Landscape.”

Through its partnership with TNC under Component 3, the project will enhance transboundary watershed and forest landscape management by fostering regional collaboration, supporting applied research, and promoting nature-based solutions. These interventions will contribute to the sustainable management of the Mano River watershed, a vital ecosystem shared by Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. By strengthening cooperation across borders, the initiative aims to improve ecosystem resilience, support sustainable landscape governance, and safeguard biodiversity throughout the region.

Under Component 2, PADEV will lead efforts to promote innovative, climate-resilient, and conservation-friendly livelihood opportunities within and around the Gola Forest National Park, the Foya Proposed Protected Area, and the Kpo Mountains Proposed Protected Area. This work will help strengthen community resilience, create sustainable economic opportunities, and improve conservation outcomes for communities that depend on forest resources for their livelihoods.

Speaking on the importance of the partnerships, SCNL emphasized that collaborative action remains essential to addressing environmental challenges and achieving long-term conservation success. By working with experienced partners such as TNC and PADEV, the organization is advancing integrated approaches that balance biodiversity conservation with community development and climate resilience.

These agreements represent an important step toward protecting Liberia’s rich natural heritage while empowering local communities and promoting sustainable management of the country’s critical forest ecosystems. SCNL remains committed to building strategic partnerships that foster environmental sustainability, strengthen climate resilience, conserve biodiversity, and support inclusive development across Liberia and the wider Mano River landscape.
