SCNL Reaffirms Commitment to Biodiversity Conservation at National Validation Workshop

“Protecting Liberia’s biodiversity requires collective responsibility and deliberate action to ensure sustainable development for current and future generations,” Mr. Garbo noted.

The Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia (SCNL) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Liberia’s biodiversity through strengthened ecosystem resilience and the promotion of sustainable development for both present and future generations.

Speaking at the National Validation Workshop of the National Biodiversity Strategic Action Plan (NBSAP) and the National Conservation Strategy (NCS), held from June 18–19, 2026, at Cape Hotel in Monrovia, SCNL Executive Director, Mr. Michael F. Garbo, emphasized the urgent need for collaborative action in safeguarding Liberia’s natural resources.

The two-day workshop brought together government institutions, environmental organizations, development partners, and key stakeholders to review and validate strategic national frameworks aimed at conserving Liberia’s rich biodiversity and strengthening environmental governance.

In his remarks, Mr. Garbo highlighted that Liberia’s forests, wetlands, and wildlife remain critical to the country’s environmental sustainability, economic growth, and the livelihoods of local communities. He stressed that strengthening ecosystem resilience is essential in addressing the growing threats posed by climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss.

“Protecting Liberia’s biodiversity requires collective responsibility and deliberate action to ensure sustainable development for current and future generations,” Mr. Garbo noted.

The National Biodiversity Strategic Action Plan and the National Conservation Strategy are expected to provide a roadmap for the country’s biodiversity management and conservation priorities, aligning Liberia’s environmental commitments with global frameworks such as the Convention on Biological Diversity.

SCNL continues to play a leading role in advocating for sustainable natural resource management and remains committed to working alongside government, partners, and communities to protect Liberia’s natural heritage for generations to come.
