SCNL Conducts Artisanal Scale Mining Training for Miners around the Gola landscape.

A two days workshop aimed at building the capacity of FDA Rangers, Ministry of Mines and Energy Field Agents and ASM Eco-guards stationed near the Gola Forest landscape in Gbarpolu has ended in Gbarma town Gbarpolu County. The training was possible thanks to funding grant from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) been implemented by the Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia (SCNL). In an opening remarks the Project Coordinator of SCNL Richard Hoff II called on all participants to ensure a sustainable practice of mining is adhere to as enshrine in the mining laws of Liberia 2003.

The training brought together 34 participants from the mining sector across 10 communities around the Gola Forest National Park including Gold camp, Lofa Bridge Weasue, Gbarma, Camp Alpha, Tima town and Kongbor and the Tonglay Community Forest Management Body in other to strengthen sectorial coordination on sustainable mining, the protection of the Gola Forest landscape from illicit mining as well as support for alternative livelihood for community dwellers around the Gola Forest national Park in Gbarpolu county.
