SCNL HOSTS ITS 2020 ANNUAL RETREAT- IN BUCHANAN, GRAND BASSA COUNTY

The Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia, (SCNL) hosted its annual retreat in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County from January 6-10, 2021. The Annual retreat is a time where the secretariat , members of the board and program team use to reflect on the progress, challenges and opportunities during the past year and craft resolutions on how to move forward into the new year. This year’s annual retreat was declared open by the Executive Director, Mr. Michael F. Garbo, who made opening remarks on behalf of the secretariat .
Mr. Garbo stressed the need for continuous collaboration and team work among all staff and extended special thanks and appreciation to SCNL’s partners, donors and collaborators in the field of nature conservation within and out of Liberia. He also expressed his deepest gratitude to each and every staff who contributed to the successes made by SCNL during such global health crisis, against all odds.
On Day 3 of the retreat, the Board Chairman, Mr. Moses Massah, speaking on behalf of the board also, thanked the SCNL Team for the tremendous efforts made in spite of many challenges in 2020 . Mr. Massah also extended thanks to the secretariat through its Executive Director, Mr. Garbo whose leadership ensured that SCNL was placed back on the CEPF Green List, something he considered a huge success for 2020, given past history .

The Program Director, Mr. Michael E. Taire for his part , give an overview of SCNL’s current and immediate past programs, their successes and challenges; And provided updates on pending projects for 2021 and beyond that SCNL stands ready to benefit from .This year’s annual retreat, brought together over 19 staff from the field offices to the secretariat with individual presentations made by department heads and project coordinators of our current projects.
After the indoor activities of the retreat, a resolution was adopted and its immediate roll out starts as of January, 11, 2021.
One major highlight of the retreat was the honoring of Mr. Michael E. Taire, Program Manager, who received a recognition for 10 years of dedicated service to SCNL in the role of program manager. Conferring the honor, was Mr. Michael F. Garbo who pinned Mr. Taire with a pin that had the words: “Do it with passion or not at all”. The retreat was not all work, as a social night and beach outing was also carried out, where, staff were able to have a time of relaxation and unwinding from all the hard work.
