At the Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia (SCNL), we are committed to protecting Liberia’s rich biodiversity and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources for present and future generations. As Liberia’s oldest conservation organization, we work with communities, government institutions, schools, international partners, and local stakeholders to create lasting environmental solutions that improve both nature and livelihoods
We support the protection and sustainable management of Liberia’s forests through community forestry initiatives, protected area advocacy, climate resilience programs, and sustainable land-use practices. Our work helps conserve critical ecosystems while empowering local communities to benefit from responsible natural resource management.
SCNL works to protect Liberia’s wildlife and endangered species by promoting conservation awareness, reducing illegal hunting and bushmeat trade, and supporting alternative livelihood opportunities for communities living around protected areas. Through research, monitoring, and community engagement, we help preserve Liberia’s unique biodiversity.
We inspire young people and communities to value and protect nature through environmental education programs, public awareness campaigns, nature talks, school outreach activities, and conservation training. By building environmental knowledge, we are helping to shape a new generation of conservation leaders in Liberia.
We believe conservation works best when communities are empowered. SCNL supports sustainable livelihood programs that help communities improve income generation while protecting forests and natural resources. These initiatives include eco-friendly enterprises, agricultural support, and community development partnerships.
SCNL collaborates with government agencies, civil society organizations, local leaders, and international partners to advocate for stronger environmental policies, improved protected area management, and sustainable natural resource governance across Liberia.
