The elephant falls ecotourism road work which is being implemented under the EU-PAPFor project in GFNP have reached its completion, as SCNL bird watching group comprising of 13 persons pays their first visit to the ecotourism site on 8th to 9th of May 2021. The bird watching group visit was also marked by the celebration of world migratory bird day on the 8th of may under the theme: SING, FLY AND SOAR LIKE A BIRD”. The elephant fall ecotourism site is one of the most beautiful and attractive places within Gola Forest National Park along the Mano River.
The site is an undisturbed natural environment for activities such as hiking, trekking, birds and butterflies watching as well as many other activities which gives relaxation to its visitors. It is located in Grand Cape Mount County after Camp Israel in the upper Sokpo clan region. It also provides an ideal learning environment for students and researchers as well as those wishing to spend their weekend in a natural environment without disturbance. Before the start of this road work, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia (SCNL) and the local leaders of upper Sokpo clan in the presence of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA). The road work was done through the collective efforts of SCNL office and field staff along with over twenty community people comprising of the Males and females of Camp Israel and Soso camp in upper Sokpo clan.
